Maserati win again in Dijon

A Vitaphone Maserati has once again won a round of the FIA GT championship, but this time it was the second car of Jamie Davies and Thomas Biagi

The pair triumphed at Dijon in their MC12, but only after Biagi controversially hit off race leader and pole sitter Jarek Janis. The Zakspeed driver led the first hour until Biagi pushed the Saleen into the gravel at the first corner. The stewards awarded a drive-through penalty, but the Maserati had enough of a cushion to tour the pitlane and retain the lead.

"I'm sorry for what happened between me and Janis but we were racing," said Biagi. "We were side by side and he tried to save his position and I tried also to overtake him and we came together. I have to say it's an important victory because we're in the 100th race for the FIA GT Championship."

The Aston Martin of RaceAlliance pair Philipp Peter and Karl Wendlinger finished second, their best result of the season, ahead of the similar DBR9 of Phoenix Racing's Andrea Piccini and Jean-Denis Deletraz.

Piccini and Deletraz are currently fighting Vitaphone Maserati drivers Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini in the drivers' championship, so will be satisfied with their podium result. Bartels and Bertolini were set for fourth place until they were demoted by the Zakspeed, which had fought its way back up the field in spectacular style.

In the GT2 class, the AF Corse of Jamie Melo and Matteo Bobbi triumphed ahead of another Ferrari 430, that of Scudeia Ecosse pair Tim Mullen and Chris Niarchos.
