Courage set to enter American Le Mans
Sportscar giant, Courage, is set to launch a bid on the American Le Mans Series
The French team could be represented in the second half of this year's series with one of the two Nissan-powered C52 racers it plans to enter at Le Mans next week.
The deal is backed by the Italian Master Car team, which has brought together ex-F1 drivers Andrea Montermini, Alex Caffi and Mimmo Schiattarella in one of the Courages at the 24-hour shoot out.
A spokesman for Courage said, 'We want to back the ALMS initiative. There is definite interest on our side on doing a deal, but nothing has been finalised.'
He explained that Courage was likely to enter into a partnership with Master Car, similar to its arrangement at Le Mans.
The boss of the Italian team, Mario Crugnola, will engineer the car in the French race, as well as providing mechanics to Courage.
Montermini is likely to team up with fellow Italian Marco Apicella in the car for the ALMS assault, while Champ Car driver Roberto Moreno could join the squad for the enduros when three drivers are needed.
Courage hopes the deal will be in place in time for the C52 to race at Sears Point in California on July 25.
