Zavodsky wins Global GT opener

Audrey Zavodsky won the inaugural round of the Women's Global GT Series

at Road Atlanta on Sunday.
She held off a strong challenge from Kiki Wolfkill and Cindi Lux to
come home with a winning margin of just 1.088 seconds at the end of the
45-minute race.

"It's a wonderful feeling to win here," said Zavodsky. "At the start the
pole car got a little out of shape but I managed to get past it. After that
I calmed down and did my best."

Third place went to Cindy Lux, who came home a further 1.383 seconds adrift
after spinning out of the lead as she restarted after a period of yellow
flags.

Lux had already passed Zavodsky for the lead on lap 10 of the 24-lap race
after a nailbiting scrap for first place that took the two frontrunners a
long way ahead of the chasing pack.

"Audrey and I hooked up from the start," said Lux. "I knew that it was
going to be a long race and I didn't want to take us out with a banzai
pass. And it just kind of happened that I passed her for the lead."

Fourth place was held by Venezuelan driver Milka Duno, who came home a
further 13.923 seconds adrift, followed by Jennifer Bretzel in fifth.

The race headed the support programme for the second round of the American
Le Mans Series at the Georgia circuit. All the drivers were driving
identically-prepared Panoz GT cars.
