Wickens earns Canada's maiden pole

Robert Wickens earned Team Canada their first ever A1GP pole position with a cracking late effort in the second of the sprint race qualifying sessions

South African Adrian Zaugg caused chaos in the middle of the session when he spun, bringing out a local yellow. This severely compromised a number of runners, especially as the first session had been red flagged after New Zealand's Jonny Reid spun with just three minutes left on the clock.

Bruno Junqueira narrowly missed out on snatching the pole just seconds after Wickens set his time, but second place was Brazil's best qualifying since Nelson Piquet Jr raced for the team in season one of the series.

Reid atoned for his first-session error by taking third, while Oliver Jarvis held pole for a while before being bumped to fourth for Team GBR. Neel Jani will line up fifth for Switzerland, with session one pacesetter Michael Ammermuller sixth for Germany.

Zaugg had a nightmare, failing to set a time, and will line up on the final row with Adam Carroll, who also failed to complete a fast lap after a technical problem with the Team Ireland car.
