Turvey to drive in rookie sessions
Oliver Turvey will drive for Team Great Britain in the rookie sessions at Shanghai next weekend
The 2006 McLaren Autosport BRDC young driver of the year drove the car briefly at Brands Hatch last month, and he replaces Oliver Jarvis, who is unavailable due to his Japanese Formula Three commitments.
"The rookie session is certainly a great opportunity for a young driver like me to show what I can do in the car," said Turvey, who is racing Formula Renault in Europe this year.
Robbie Kerr will take over the car for the rest of the weekend after the rookie sessions, but Turvey is hoping to put in some competitive lap times during his brief opportunity on the Friday of the event.
"It's obviously an important part of the weekend in helping the team prepare for qualifying and the races, but I'm hoping I'll get the chance to do some fast laps," he said.
The 19-year-old is also hoping that the role will eventually lead to an opportunity to race for the team, like it has for Jarvis this year, who scored the team's maiden win last time out in Mexico.
"Needless to say I'd love the opportunity to race for Great Britain, and Oliver Jarvis has proved that if you do a good job in the rookie sessions the team takes note," added Turvey.
