Team Dynamics to run Integras

The BTCC's leading independent team previously campaigned the Civic Type-R, which helped Neal to fifth in last year's drivers' standings but was outclassed by Vauxhall's VX Racing powerhouse.

Neal, who returned to the Team Dynamics squad run by his father in 2003, explained that the key advantages of the Integra are a more aerodynamic shape, a lower centre of gravity and a better cd factor than the Civic.

He said: "A lot of the components are the same; the engine is carried over from the Civic and it has the same floorpan, but it's one inch wider. The wheelbase is the same but it has a better cd factor and is much more 'slippery' than the Civic, which is very important in cars with limited horsepower like we have in the BTCC.

"The [Vauxhall] Astra has the best cd factor, while the Civic was probably the worst. The Integra is much better. The roofline is three inches lower, it has a lower centre of gravity and it's lighter."

Neal's young team-mate Dan Eaves added: "The Integra has won in everything from national saloons to the Maca Guia race, so I'm confident it will be successful in the BTCC."

Team Dynamics is hoping to field a third entry in 2005 but Neal stressed that this was contingent on extra sponsorship being found. The environment for procuring those funds has improved as a result of the new TV package agreed for 2005, which will see all 15 races broadcast on ITV.

"It's great to have bums on seats but at the end of the day it's all about TV," said Neal. "Before, Team Dynamics has had sponsors who are kind of interested but don't commit to anything. Since the new TV deal they've been pro-active, ringing us up and wanting to get involved. If it's happening to Team Dynamics it must be happening to all the teams. I think with Alan Gow back at the helm the BTCC is getting stronger again."
