Switzerland close in on A1GP title

Team Switzerland have one hand on the A1GP title after Neel Jani took a dominant sprint race victory in Shanghai this morning

Jani made the perfect getaway from the rolling start to lead into the first corner. From there the ex-Formula One tester drove away from the field.

In contrast, Team New Zealand's title hopes unravelled before Jonny Reid even made the first corner. A tangle with Team USA's Jonathan Summerton took both cars out of the race, and leaves New Zealand 31 points behind the Swiss.

With Team France also failing to score - despite Franck Montagny gaining six places on the opening lap - Jani only has to finish ahead of Reid and Montagny in the feature race to claim the title.

Rob Wickens (Canada) muscled by Filipe Albuquerque (Portugal) into the first corner to take second. The two staged a great fight for the rest of the ten-lap race, but that was the order they finished in.

Alex Yoong made a great start for Team Malaysia to slot into fourth, which he held to the flag, while Narain Karthikeyan (India) had his mirrors full of Michael Ammermuller (Germany) as they disputed fifth.

Adrian Zaugg (South Africa) had a quiet run to seventh ahead of Edoardo Piscopo (Italy), while Robbie Kerr (GB) had to drive a defensive race to keep ninth place from the charging Franky Cheng (China), who drove an inspired race to take the final point from 15th on the grid.
