Power targets title charge after win
Will Power believes that he can be a serious contender for the Champ Car title in only his second year in the series after he won the season opener on Sunday
The 2006 rookie of the year won on the streets of Las Vegas after starting from pole position, and he said that Team Australia were preparing for a championship push throughout the season.
"It feels really good, but I'm not celebrating heaps because it's the start of the championship," he said.
"This is the first of a long marathon, because we really want to win this championship."
Power added that the team were not surprised by their pace at the first round of the season, and he had a plan for the first three races of the year, which are all back-to-back.
"I set my mind for three races," he said. "This was where we expected to be after testing, somewhere in the top four, or top three."
Team co-owner Derrick Walker also believes that the team are ready to fight for the title.
"We are not getting carried away because we are only one race into a new season, but so far, so good," he said. "I think today is just the first step in a long journey.
"We got maximum points and that's what you need if you are going to be in a position to win the championship."
