Marino Franchitti pairs with Herta

Andretti Green Racing have confirmed that Marino Franchitti will partner Brian Herta in the American Le Mans Series next year

The pair will share the LMP2 Courage-Acura for Andretti Green's maiden campaign in sportscar racing, which will begin with the Sebring 12 hours in March.

Franchitti said: "This is the biggest thing to happen in my career. I'm looking forward to joining AGR and helping them achieve their first victory."

The 28-year-old is also looking forward to working with Herta, who is switching from the team's IndyCar Series operation.

"Bryan has a tremendous amount of experience from both open-wheel racing as well as sportscars and I plan to learn all I can from him," he said. "Overall, we have a very solid team."

Team boss Michael Andretti believes that the Scot's background is sportscar racing will be a key factor as the team learns during their first season.

"Marino's background is nearly all in sportscars and he should be a big plus in the development of our ALMS programme," he said.

"He has shown he has the ability to run up front and he just needs an opportunity like this to show what he is capable of."

Marino is the younger brother of Dario Franchitti, who is expected to re-sign with Andretti Green in the IndyCar Series.
