Malaysia win Zandvoort sprint race

Team Malaysia claimed the first A1GP victory of the Powered by Ferrari era in utterly appalling conditions at Zandvoort this morning

Constant rain and gale-force winds meant the race started under the safety car, but before the action even officially got underway there was drama as Adam Carroll spun going through the final turn and was collected by Team Monaco's Clivio Piccione.

At the front, Jeroen Bleekemolen led, but had Earl Bamber's Black Beauty in his mirrors. The teenage Kiwi eventually forced a mistake from the Dutchman and took over the lead.

Meanwhile, Fauzy was swapping third place with Team Switzerland's Neel Jani. He finally shook off the defending champion and set about Bleekemolen. A sweet move into Tarzan bagged second for Fauzy and he caught Bamber by the end of the lap.

A textbook pass into Hugenholz and he was set for a ground-breaking win.

The race was scheduled for 14 laps, but with two to go Team Brazil spun their car into the barriers and with conditions only getting worse, the red flag was flown.

Bamber held onto second, while third fell to a charging Loic Duval. The Team France man working his way up from 11th on the grid.

Bleekemolen took fourth, Jani fifth, while Zandvoort specialist Adrian Zaugg fought back after going off behind the safety car to claim sixth for South Africa.
