Magazine: F1 Miami Grand Prix review

Events at the high-speed street circuit underlined what many had already been thinking: Verstappen and Red Bull must now be regarded as Formula 1 championship favourites in 2022, even though the Dutchman is still 19 points behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

Alex Kalinauckas explains how Verstappen won despite a troubled practice and a late scare in our in-depth report, while Matt Kew answers some of the flak the event itself received.

A former Ferrari star died last week and we pay our tribute in this issue. Tony Brooks was one of the finest racing drivers of the 1950s and came very close to winning the F1 world title, as well as being involved in key breakthroughs for British teams Connaught and Vanwall.

The other major international event last weekend was the World Endurance Championship encounter at Spa. Eclectic weather was thrown at the competitors and it was the sole surviving Toyota that came out on top. Gary Watkins was there to see how it all unfolded, as well as the close finishes in the GTE classes.

Porsche will soon be returning to sportscar racing’s top flight. We see how the new LMDh programme is progressing as the German marque targets more success in the two 24-hour classics at Le Mans and Daytona.
