GT comeback put on hold
New series boss Stephane Ratel had postponed the return of the GT class to 2005 after three of the four cars entered this year were withdrawn in the run-up to the start of the series. Now he has stated that he believes the future lies with the existing N-GT and Cup divisions
Ratel said: "I admit now that it would have been a mistake to throw four GT cars into the championship we have now, so I am happy that it did not happen. We are better off without them.
"We have three good Porsches and three good TVRs and two good Ferraris. The racing at the first round at Donington Park [earlier this month] was excellent. It is a nice, compact championship and I don't see any reason to change it."
Ratel explained that he would only consider bringing back the GT cars for the '05 season if there were "between six and eight cars at a very high level".
Morgan works driver Adam Sharpe has secured a drive in the GruppeM Tech 9 Motorsport team's British GT Cup class Porsche 911 GT3 for the remainder of the season, partnering Jonathan Rowland.
