Germany takes Sprint race pole

Michael Ammermuller has taken his maiden A1GP pole position for the first of Sunday's races at Zhuhai this weekend

The German driver, who had an eventful debut in the series last time out in Malaysia where he collided with several of his rivals, set his best time in the second segment of qualifying, which was enough to keep him ahead of series leaders Switzerland.

Neel Jani will share the front row of the grid in the Swiss car, while Ireland will start third after Adam Carroll was unable to hang on to the top spot which he held after the first segment.

Franky Cheng was fourth fastest for China on home soil, while Oliver Jarvis rescued a top five starting position for Great Britain after they started the session poorly.

Tomas Enge was strong on his return to competitive action for the Czech Republic with sixth place, while France and the Netherlands share row four.

The seventh row of the grid features two cars that have been frontrunners for most of this season, as New Zealand and South Africa had a disappointing session.
