France's Premat wins sprint race

Premat made a fabulous getaway at the rolling start, passing both Nelson Piquet Jr and Neel Jani in a three-abreast dive into the first corner. Once ahead, the GP2 race winner was never threatened and he cruised to victory.

Piquet kept up Team Brazil's title challenge with second place, while Jani's Team Switzerland car hassled him all the way. Jos Verstappen for once had a trouble-free run to a solid - but distant - fourth, while Tomas Enge was right on his tail in fifth for the Czech Republic.

Portugal, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia and South Africa were the other point scorers.

It was a terrible race for Team Great Britain. Robbie Kerr was sizing up Team Germany for 12th place, when he was tagged from behind by Ralph Firman's Team Ireland car. The collision punctured the Brit's right rear and he was out, while Firman stopped for a replacement nose cone and finished as the final runner.

Team Australia, Mexico, Pakistan and China were the other retirees. All four were involved in a lap-one pile-up at the first corner.
