France stay on top at Estoril

A deluge of rain after the opening session caused a 20-minute delay to the kick-off of free practice two, as the track was safety-checked and re-checked.

Eventually it got going, but as in the earlier session, the best times would be set late on as a dryer line emerged.

Premat recorded a best lap of 1:52.037 to end up 1.7 seconds ahead of Nelson Piquet Jr of Team Brazil.

Local hero Alvaro Parente made a late improvement to take third from Team Switzerland's Neel Jani, while Scott Speed was fifth quickest to cap a good day for the GP2 graduates. Tomas Enge was sixth quickest for Team Czech Republic.

Despite being one of the many spinners, Team Ireland's Ralph Firman was in among the quick drivers in seventh, but it was a tough day for Team GBR and Robbie Kerr was back in a frustrating 15th.
