Fittipaldi: Safety work must continue
Christian Fittipaldi has called on CART chiefs to continue improving safety, following the death of Champ Car driver Gonzalo Rodriguez almost two weeks ago
The Uruguayan was killed during practice for the Grand of Monterey at Laguna Seca, in only his second appearance in the series.
Fittipaldi, a member of the CART safety committee, claims organisers need to continue working on safety 'to avoid what happened two weeks ago'.
'There is never going to be a point where either the tracks or the cars are over-safe...We need to try and make everything, not only the tracks, but also the cars, safer,' said the Brazilian.
Fittipaldi has been out of the sport for the past few weeks, after crashing during a test at Gateway International Raceway.
He was found to be suffering from a subdural haematoma [collection of blood] on his brain.
The Newman-Haas racer has fully recovered, and makes his return to the CART series this weekend in Houston, in time for the last three races of the season.
