Montoya on provisional pole
Juan Montoya was fastest in Friday qualifying for the Texaco Grand Prix of Houston
The Columbian was in the slower group of cars this time, having qualified in the midfield at the previous race, but this worked to his advantage as the track became increasingly fast during the second session.
Also benefiting from this was Naoki Hattori, who was a stunning fifth fastest for Walker Racing.
Christian Fittipaldi was Montoya's nearest challenger, while Dario Franchitti was back in sixth place.
