Dutch delighted with home showing

Despite all of the controversy in the build-up to their home race, Team Netherlands were delighted with their first weekend of the A1 GP season

The team announced last week that last season's lead driver Jos Verstappen would not be driving at Zandvoort, but bounced back to be at the sharp end without their star driver.

There was heartbreak for Jeroen Bleekemolen as he lost a podium position on the final lap of the feature race, but the team were still jubilant after the race.

"We have had a difficult week of course, but we have shown what A1 is and what we are capable of," said team seat holder Jan Lammers.

"This is the reward that the spectators deserved, it has been a fantastic weekend and an absolute joy. We are happy with what we have got."

Bleekemolen led the feature race for a while, but the team decided not to switch to slick tyres when the track dried, and cars on the right tyres were much faster than the Dutch rookie in the closing stages.

"What's good is that we were able to get close to the top fast," he said. "It's fantastic that I was in a position to drive this race, we have proved we will be on the podium this year."
