Dubai race gets go-ahead

In excess of 40 drivers have provisionally entered the race, with competitors drawn from Australia, Canada and the United States, as well as the UK. Race organiser Chris Hodgen, the man behind the clubff1600.co.uk website, has completed a freight deal which will keep shipping costs down to just £500

Hodgen said: "We've done a deal to ship the cars rather than go by air. The last British race will probably be the Walter Hayes Trophy in early November, so there will be enough time to ship the cars out to Dubai."

Gavin Wills, who is a certainty to contest the race, has agreed to use Team West-Tec's Corby base as a collecting point for the British-based cars. All that now remains to be settled is the costs of competing at the meeting, which will support the International Formula 3 race on December 15-17.

Hodgen said: "The only thing preventing me giving a definitive figure is waiting for the testing and race entry fees to be set. Once that is done, I will be able to set a firm price on competing in the race. Otherwise only the regs need to be settled."
