Hughes grabs Cup podium
Hughes, without a full-time drive after losing out on an MG BTCC place, missed the first race after suffering a driveshaft failure on the warm-up lap caused by a change of loading when running from a damp piece of track onto a dry section while trying to build up heat in the tyres
Despite the setback, he took third in the second race after starting from the back of the grid by dint of his failure to start race one.
Hughes said: "I knew I was up against it. I got a bit delayed by an incident at the first corner. But it was great and the Porsche is one of the most enjoyable cars I've ever driven. I would like to thank Porsche GB for giving me the opportunity to race. It was fantastic."
Former BTCC champion Alain Menu is set to drive the Porsche VIP car in the next round of the championship at Oulton Park in two weeks. It will be his first race in the UK since last July's Donington Park DTM German touring car round.
