Christian Fittipaldi joins AGR

Christian Fittipaldi will race full-time in the American Le Mans Series with Andretti Green Racing in 2008

The team announced on Thursday that the Brazilian will partner Bryan Herta in their LMP2 Acura next year, replacing Marino Franchitti.

"I am definitely looking forward to this new challenge in my career," said Fittipaldi, who won the Daytona 24 hours in 2004, and raced at Le Mans for the first time this year.

"I think 2008 is going to be a really good season for Andretti Green. I am very motivated to do everything I can to get them back into the winner's circle."

The 36-year-old said he was pleased to join forces with team boss Michael Andretti again, after the pair were teammates in Champ Car with Newman/Haas from 1996-2000.

"I was talking to Michael about how five or six years ago we were teammates, and now he has a team and I am driving for him," he added.

"It is going to be different for us, though, because when we were teammates we had to work together and at the same time there was that internal rivalry that you always have in a team. But now, we are 200 per cent on the same side."

Andretti added: "When you're hiring a driver that you used to race against and were teammates with, you know he is going to be fast.

"We need to go to the next level with out ALMS programme in 2008 and we feel like this is a great step in the right direction."

Andretti Green scored one LMP2 victory in their maiden ALMS season at Sebring, and they took one overall pole position at Long Beach, while their class rivals Penske Porsche dominated most of the season.
