Briscoe replaces Maassen at Penske
IRL IndyCar Series race winner Ryan Briscoe is to return to the American Le Mans Series to replace Sascha Maassen at Penske Porsche
Briscoe drove for Penske's ALMS arm in 2007 before moving across to their IndyCar operation this year.
He will compete in both championships when they share a bill in Detroit this weekend, and will remain in the sportscar series through October's Petit Le Mans event.
"I'm pretty excited about it," said Briscoe. "On the bright side, I'm really familiar with both cars. I don't foresee any issues going from one to the other. Speed, braking points, they're similar and I know everyone I'm working with.
"They're both very competitive cars and hopefully I'll be able to come away with two good results."
The Australian will share the No.6 Penske Porsche with Patrick Long. While fellow Penske pairing Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas lead the LMP2 standings and have taken four class wins and two overall victories this season, Long and previous co-driver Maassen have remained win-less so far in 2008.
Briscoe took two outright wins and three class victories when paired with Maassen last year.
