Bourdais holds off Tracy for win

Sebastien Bourdais remains unbeaten in the 2006 Champ Car World Series, after fighting up from fifth on the grid to win the inaugural Grand Prix of Houston at the Reliant Park

The Newman/Haas driver took fourth from Allmendinger at the start, passed Paul Tracy for third on lap 4, and then spent much of the race behind Mario Dominguez.

When the Mexican outbraked himself into Turn 5 on lap 66 and went down the escape road, he dropped to third, leaving the lead battle between Bourdais and Tracy.

Tracy kept with Bourdais, but when the race was interrupted by a pair of almost consecutive full course yellows (the fifth and sixth of the night) as the race reached the two hour mark, the Canadian was left with just one green flag lap to get the job done. He failed by 1.2 seconds.

Dominguez came home third, passing up the opportunity of a last-lap banzai move in favour of inter-team harmony.

CTE Racing-HVM's Nelson Philippe scored the best finish his Champ Car career with fourth place, holding off Britain's Justin Wilson, who brought his RuSPORT car up from the back of the field when PKV Racing's Oriol Servia pushed him into a half-spin at Turn 1, obliging him to pit for fresh tyres and a check-over.

Servia too fought through the field, but had a second, more violent incident at Turn 1, when he outbraked Team Australia's Alex Tagliani for fourth place, and the pair made contact.

Servia was out on the spot, while crash damage appeared to cause Tagliani's demise under the subsequent yellow, when he went straight on into the tyres at Turn 5.

Andrew Ranger drove another feisty race to clock his second consecutive sixth place finish.
