Bourdais fastest at Portland
Sebastien Bourdais and his Newman/Haas/Lanigan team comfortably topped the timesheets on the first day of testing at Portland on Tuesday
Bourdais and his teammate Graham Rahal repeated their 1-2 from Houston in the test, but the Frenchman was a full second clear of his rookie teammate.
Things were closer behind Rahal, who was less than one tenth of a second ahead of RSPORTS driver Alex Tagliani and PKV's Neel Jani.
"It's good to get some testing here, because we have a stretch of road courses coming up that are going to play a large part in the championship," said Tagliani.
"Coming here after Houston, you notice that you can sense details in the new car that you couldn't feel when you're going over the bumps on street courses."
Dan Clarke had a promising day as he set the fifth quickest time, and behind him Tristan Gommendy and Robert Doornbos led a quartet of rookies.
Behind them were the Pacific Coast Motorsports cars of Ryan Dalziel, and the returning Alex Figge, who had missed the Houston race due to injury.
