Audi happy to return to longer track
Audi believe that they will be able to fully exploit the potential of their diesel R10 for the first time in several races next time out at Road America
The team have not won an ALMS race outright since St Petersburg at the end of March, but they are confident that they can finally defeat the LMP2 Porsches next weekend.
"After having raced at several circuits that didn't quite suit our car, we can hardly wait to drive at Road America," said reigning champion Dindo Capello.
"We should be capable of extracting the full potential of our car there. Our last overall victory was more than four months ago. It's high time that we return to the winner's circle."
Marco Werner, who was part of Audi's only sportscar victory so far this summer in the Le Mans 24 Hours, believes that the long straights at Road America will suit the LMP1 cars more than most of the American circuits.
"Every one of us is looking forward to Road America," he said. "The R10 is built for Le Mans - and therefore more for Road America than Lime Rock of Mid-Ohio."
Audi's head of motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich said that the team were determined to fight the LMP2 cars, despite the fact that points are only awarded based on class results.
"In Road America we aim to continue with the big victories we scored at the beginning of the season," he said.
"We will do everything possible to beat the LMP2 cars, even though there are no points awarded in the ALMS for doing this."
