A1 GP Not Ruling Out Night Races
A1 Grand Prix has not ruled out the possibility of holding night races on its future schedules
All of the World Cup of Motorsport's races in the inaugural season will be held in traditional afternoon slots, with a sprint race before a longer feature race.
A1 GP general manager Stephen Watson told Autosport-Atlas that the timing could change in future seasons.
He said: "A night race brings that extra element of excitement, and we haven't ruled out the possibility. We would have to look at the logistics, and the facility, and the health and safety aspects.
"We haven't actively perused it yet but if any promoter came to us with a proposal we would look at it seriously. This year it would be too ambitious but maybe within the next two years."
With nine of the 12 races being held outside of Europe, the start time of live television coverage will vary radically in each country. This could be eased with night races that would reach daytime audiences in other countries.
Watson added: "People such as Sky Sports in Britain have the rights to run live coverage for everything. But they may decide to run delayed coverage for some events.
"There will always be a hardcore group of fans who could get up and watch the races live but night racing could be an option."
