Glock wins Barcelona sprint race

Timo Glock scored a long overdue GP2 victory in the Barcelona sprint race on Sunday, racing through from seventh on the grid to a dominant victory and ending a streak of second place finishes this year

After failing to win at Bahrain and the opening race at Barcelona, Glock, whose iSport car has been the fastest all weekend, made short work of those who started ahead of him.

The German gained a position at the aborted first start, when Borja Garcia (Durango) stalled, and was up to fifth by the conclusion of the first lap.

Glock then passed Mikhail Aleshin (ART), feature race winner Bruno Senna (Arden) and Lucas di Grassi (ART) over the next three laps, and chased down pole-sitter Javier Villa (Racing Engineering), who had opened up a two-second lead.

Glock towed past him approaching Turn 1 on lap eight and pulled away to an easy victory. Villa took second, while di Grassi just clung to third despite some brazen attempts by Senna in the closing stages that almost paid off.

They were separated by just a tenth of a second at the finish line.

Sergio Jimenez finished fifth, while Giorgio Pantano turned in a truly outstanding race to finish sixth from 21st, pulling off some great passing moves along the way.
