Glock takes first GP2 win

Timo Glock scored his first ever GP2 win in the feature event at Magny-Cours, fending off a concerted attack from Alex Premat

Glock took over at the front when he passed Lucas di Grassi, but the Brazilan had yet to pit. The real battle for the lead had been decided when pole sitter - and early race leader - Jose Maria Lopez had a slow pit stop.

This dropped the Super Nova driver back to fifth, but a charging drive took him past Giorgio Pantano (who also had a slow stop) and Nelson Piquet Jr (whose team had done a brilliant pit job) and into the final podium position.

Premat made a great start to run fourth in the early stages, and he pitted at the same time as the delayed Lopez and Pantano. As Glock closed on the late-stopping di Grassi, he reduced the lead to just over a second, but that was as close as he came, and Glock eventually rode out a comfortable winner.

Piquet held onto fourth, while team-mate Xandi Negrao had his best GP2 weekend to date, passing Pantano late on for fifth.

Di Grassi dropped back to seventh after his stop and that's where he finished, while eighth and race two pole, went to Ferdinando Monfardini, after he deposed Hiro Yoshimoto with a handful of laps to go.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton had a miserable race. He tagged the rear of Adam Carroll at the hairpin on the first lap and had to pit for a new nose, He then set fastest lap before his pace dropped off dramatically. The final insult came on the last lap when he was lapped by Glock.
