Glock steals last-lap win

Timo Glock snatched victory in his home GP2 race on the final lap, passing long-term leader Jose Maria Lopez with just a couple of corners remaining

Lopez had led since a three-way tussle for the lead between pole-sitter Clivio Piccione, himself and Giorgio Pantano into the hairpin on the first lap resulted in Piccione ending up in the barriers and the Super Nova car in the lead.

The Argentinean stretched his advantage to as much as three seconds, while from sixth on the grid Glock made an excellent start and battled his way into second.

At first the gap was maintained, but in the closing stages Lopez's advantage ebbed away until, on the final lap, Glock was close enough to capitalise when Lopez got sideways in the chicane and he nipped by for an emotional home win.

Lopez took second to complete a great comeback after his qualifying faux pas. Lewis Hamilton was a distant third, but his drive from seventh on the grid included a series of textbook passing moves into the hairpin.

One of those vanquished was Ernesto Viso, but Glock's iSport teammate repeated the move on Pantano to claim fourth place late in the race.

Pantano just held off a charging drive from race one winner Gimmi Bruni to claim fifth, while the fastest car in the closing stages was the Arden machine of GP2 returnee Nicolas Lapierre, who narrowly missed out on a point as he crossed the line just fractions behind Bruni in seventh.

Adam Carroll ran in the points for a long period, but his pace dropped off in the latter laps and he dropped to eighth by the flag.
