Glock: hard to believe title is won

Timo Glock says that it is difficult to believe that he is the GP2 champion after a turbulent title chase this season

The German driver seemed to be cruising to the title in the early part of the season, but a string of incidents and mechanical problems allowed Lucas di Grassi into contention in the second half of the year.

Glock sealed the title with victory in the season finale at Valencia on Sunday, and after the race he made several mentions of the difficulties that he and the iSport team had faced this year, as he tried to come to terms with winning the championship.

"At the moment it's just a little bit difficult to believe it," said Glock. "After all the hard work over the year, all the bad luck and bad races like in Spa, and the hard races.

"When you have so many ups and downs, when at the end you can just win the championship, it's just a great feeling."

The BMW Sauber Formula One test driver, who raced briefly in F1 in 2004 with Jordan before spending a year in Champ Car, hailed his decision to move to GP2 in 2006.

"In the end it's just the place to be to make your way into F1, and the racing is hard," Glock said.

"You've seen Nico (Rosberg) and Lewis (Hamilton) as champions for the last two years, and Lewis is almost winning the F1 championship now.

"So GP2 is definitely the place to be. It is the championship that is the closest to Formula One, as we get to race in front of all the F1 teams, and that's just so important.

"Now I just hope we can get something done for 2008."
