Conway expects strong start to year

GP2 series rookie Mike Conway believes that he can compete at the front of the field from the start of the season after his recent testing form

The reigning British Formula Three champion set the second fastest time on the final day of testing at Paul Ricard last week, and he is aiming for strong results straight away with Super Nova.

"I was pretty open-minded at the start of the year before testing, but now I don't see why we can't fight for wins," Conway told autosport.com.

"It's all gone really well so far, and as long as we keep doing what we are doing, and I learn the tracks quickly, then there's no reason we can't be right at the front."

The British driver also feels that with the experience of Luca Filippi in the team this year, Super Nova can expect strong results from both cars.

"Luca's experience of these cars has been good for me," he said. "It's early days, but we are moving forward, and we have two drivers that can win races."

Conway will not be able to drive the car again until the first round of the season in Bahrain next month, but he feels that he will be capable of making an impact on his debut.

"We are in a good place," he said. "A podium would be good for my first weekend, and anything more than that would be a bonus."
