Carroll quickest for iSport at Jerez
Adam Carroll set the fastest time on the first day of GP2 testing at Jerez, driving for 2007 champions iSport
The Ulsterman was driving the exact car that took Timo Glock to the title at Valencia last weekend, and his best lap from the morning was just two hundredths of a second faster than Andy Soucek managed for DPR in the afternoon.
Soucek's time, combined with the solid pace of Luca Filippi would have come as a welcome boost to DPR, who will be hoping that their strong end to a difficult 2007 season will enable them to stay in the series for 2008.
Bruno Senna was third fastest overall for Campos Grand Prix, while his former British F3 teammate Mike Conway was fourth fastest.
Conway was driving for former champions ART, who would have been pleased to see their cars second and third quickest in the afternoon session as they try to move on from missing out on the GP2 title for the first time.
Sebastien Buemi was third fastest in the afternoon for the French squad, but his time was only good enough for sixth overall, as several drivers managed better times in the morning.
Roldan Rodriguez was fourth overall for Minardi Piquet Sports, who will expect to be strong on Friday when Carroll joins the team for the second and final day of the test.
Three-time race winner Javier Villa completed the top five in the overall times for Racing Engineering, while the fastest driver with no GP2 race experience was Marco Bonanomi, driving for Minardi Piquet Sports.
