Pic sets the pace at Paul Ricard

Formula Renault graduate Charles Pic set the pace on the first day of World Series by Renault testing at Paul Ricard on Tuesday

The 17-year-old French driver was fastest for 2007 champions Tech 1 Racing, and his best lap was nearly four tenths of a second faster than the next driver.

"I've still got lots of work to do, but this result is encouraging," said Pic, who finished third in the Formula Renault Eurocup this year.

"Everything worked well with the team who guided me well when it came to getting the most out of the car.

"I gradually went on the attack and I only put in my fastest lap once my tyres were performing at their peak."

Carlo van Dam was second fastest for 2006 champions Comtec Racing, who had a tougher season in 2007, while Bertrand Baguette was third fastest.

The top five was completed by the Dutch pairing of Renger van der Zande and Yelmer Buurman, who both raced in the F3 Euro Series in 2007, while Daniil Move completed the top six in the second Comtec car.
