Pic sets pace on final day in Spain

Charles Pic set the pace on the final day of World Series by Renault testing at Valencia, which marked the last time the teams will use the current car

The 17-year-old outpaced the experienced Mikhail Aleshin to set his best lap during the morning session on Friday, as the majority of the best times were set earlier in the day.

"I set my fastest time fairly early on this morning, the track was clearly faster than it was yesterday," said Pic, who was driving for 2007 champions Tech 1 Racing.

"I've made some useful progress on my driving technique, we are now going to work on that to analyse and understand what we have collected over the last three days."

Marco Bonanomi set the third fastest time, although he was one of several drivers to have their times disallowed.

The Italian and Marco Barba were both punished for "failure to observe the course route", while Michael Herck and Daniil Move's cars failed a weight check.

Guillaume Moreau set the fourth fastest time of the test, but the French driver felt that he could have been even quicker.

"We have significantly improved the car here," he said, "but I'm sure I could have gone two tenths of a second faster if it wasn't for yellow flags."
