Molina inherits win from Duran

Miguel Molina inherited his first win of the season when on-the-road winner Salvador Duran was excluded after the race

Duran made a decisive start from the outside of the front row and out-braked pole-man Giedo van der Garde into Turn 1 for the lead. Van der Garde's challenge for honours was sabotaged by a troublesome left rear wheel at his pit stop.

The Dutchman's mandatory tyre change was over six seconds longer than Duran's and relegated him to eighth at the finish.

Duran won convincingly, but a technical non-conformity was found in his gear ratios in post-race scrutineering and the officials decided to disqualify him from the race.

Molina had held Jousse at bay for second after making an early pit stop strategy pay off. The Prema driver came in from third on the opening of the pit window on lap five, and was promoted a position in light of van der Garde's pit maladies.

Molina's teammate Alvaro Barba finished fourth on the road, having pressured Jousse for the final place on the podium over the last five laps.

Prema's strong showing made amends for the unfortunate first corner collision between Alvaro Barba and Molina in race one. Barba had the distinction of providing most of the entertainment in a largely processional race. With inspired overtaking moves at Turn 1 on Bertrand Baguette for fifth, and Marco Bonanomi for fourth three laps later.

Van der Garde leads Jousse by 48 points as the series heads to Le Mans for round seven next week.

Jousse scored his fourth podium of the year today, but is still without a breakthrough win and has high hopes for an improved showing on home soil.

"Salvador has made things very close in the championship this weekend," he said. "But this race has been good for my confidence after I made a big mistake yesterday. The objective for Le Mans is to make some big progress."
