Fauzy disqualified from second
Fairuz Fauzy has been disqualified from his second place finish at the Nurburgring today, after his Fortec machine failed the post-race technical inspection
The decision is the second post-race penalty, after Esteban Guerrieri had 25 seconds added to his result for overtaking Salvador Duran illegally by cutting the Veedol chicane.
The technical discrepancy on Fauzy's car was due to a missing spacer in the rear upright, which was instead replaced by more camber shims. The organisers have accepted that the error was unintentional and not performance enhancing, and have allowed Fauzy to start from his eighth place grid slot in tomorrow's feature race.
A similar incident brought about the disqualification of Pastor Maldonado from victory at Misano in 2006. On that occasion Maldonado's Draco team disputed the stewards' decision at the FIA international court of appeal, but the exclusion was upheld.
"We've got to hold our hands up," said Fortec's Peter Crolla. "It was not intentional and the stewards have confirmed that there would have been no performance gain. It is a massive hit as it would have been a big result for us."
Guerrieri drops from fourth to 12th in the race one classification thanks to his penalty. Mikhail Aleshin is promoted to third for Carlin, with Duran fourth, Bertrand Baguette fifth and Pablo Sanchez rounding out the revised top six.
