London Formula E: Jean-Eric Vergne tops practice for Andretti

The Andretti driver set a best time of 1m25.351s in the 25-minute session, which was cut from 30 minutes after Turn 1 was reprofiled with TECPRO barriers to make the cars avoid a major bump on the exit of the left-hander.

Championship leader Nelson Piquet Jr was second fastest aboard his China Racing Spark-Renault SRT_01Es with a 1m25.676s, which left him three tenths behind the Frenchman.

Nicolas Prost was third fastest in the best of the e.dams entries on a 2m16.010s.

Dragon Racing's Jerome d'Ambrosio was fourth fastest, while Lucas di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi, who lie second and third in the championship, rounded out the top six.

Turn 1 was revised after d'Ambrosio's Dragon entry sustained suspension failure on the bump.

The TECPRO barriers effectively shroud the bump and reduce the track to single file, which means that a yellow flag is permanently displayed at the left-hander.

That makes choosing a top 10 especially difficult, particularly as the qualifying format meant some worthy performers were unable to enjoy their day in the sun

OPINION: The departure of Audi from Formula E meant its long-time driver Lucas di Grassi would need to find a new berth to stay on the grid. His deal at Venturi Racing will ensure the championship's first-ever race winner will remain competitive into the final year of the current Gen2 ruleset - although it may not be a long-term fit
