Viso claims first win
Ernesto Viso took his breakthrough championship class win in the first British Formula 3 race at Knockhill today. The Venezuelan P1 Motorsport driver led away from pole and dominated the race, although his chasers kept him honest throughout.
The pursuers were led by Australian Will Power (Alan Docking Racing), whose second place also held from beginning to end. Although there were fears of carnage at the slippery Duffus Dip on the first lap, there was good behaviour all round. Viso, Power and Briton James Rossiter slotted neatly through the right-hander and none of them bothered each other much on the way to the end.
Fourth place was a hectic battle some distance behind the podium finishers. Adam Carroll (Viso's team-mate) did well to hold off Clivio Piccione, Karun Chandhok, Danilo Dirani and Alvaro Parente. But although it was always close, there was never a move from anyone on the small Fife track.
Rossiter now leads the championship, since both Dirani and Piquet (who recovered to tenth from thirteenth on the grid) didn't do enough to keep their two-point co-lead.
