Turvey expecting to surprise in F3

McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Oliver Turvey is hoping to surprise a few people at the front of the British F3 field next year

Turvey expecting to surprise in F3

Speaking at Sunday night's Autosport Awards in London, Turvey said that winning the award would help him put together a competitive programme in F3.

"Hopefully we can race in the championship class of British F3 now," he told autosport.com.

"We were waiting until after the awards, because winning the award was always going to change things. I knew that if I won the award I would go for championship class."

Turvey hasn't committed to a team for next year, but he could stay involved with his Formula BMW team boss Trevor Powell, who has run F3 cars in the past.

"Trevor has been so good to me in the past that I feel I need to be loyal to him," he said.

"Hopefully we can do lots of testing before the season, and then we could surprise a few people and beat some of the top teams."

Turvey made his British F3 debut at the Thruxton season finale, and that gave him the belief that he could be competitive in the championship.

"Thruxton was a good experience," he said. "We were in at the deep end with no testing, but we got to see what the competition is like, and next year we can do well."
