Silverstone race 2: Courtney cakewalk

James Courtney triumphed in a processional F3 race at Silverstone to further strengthen his grasp on this year's British championship

The Aussie took advantage of a poor start by polesitter Mark Taylor to lead into the first corner and once in front he simply stretched his lead, leaving the chasing pack to fight among themselves.

Fabio Carbone also benefited from Taylor getting bogged down and although he could not match Courtney's pace, he managed to keep ahead of the Englishman to finish a fine second. Richard Antinucci pushed Taylor hard throughout the race without ever getting close enough to make a move, and he took fourth.

In a race of little overtaking, one driver who did manage a pass was Robbie Kerr. Too much wheelspin at the start dropped him from fifth to seventh, but a solid move on Heikki Kovalainen regained one of those places, but although the Englishman pushed Bruce Jouanny hard he had to settle for sixth. Michael Keohane followed Kerr past Kovalainen into seventh place, which he held to the end.

In the Scholarship class poleman Billy Asaro was unable to take his grid position after experiencing clutch troubles in the pits. He eventually started five laps into the race, but by that stage team-mate Adam Carroll had established a comfortable lead, which he would hold to the end. It was a good performance from the Sweeney driver considering that he did the whole race on flat-spotted tyres, a consequence of spins in both qualifying sessions.

In his first race for Sweeney Rob Dahlgren was second, while Croft winner Justin Sherwood was third.
