Senna takes Silverstone pole

Bruno Senna returned to pole-winning form by going fastest in qualifying for tomorrow's first British Formula Three race at Silverstone

The Double R driver headed the times in a straightforward but chilly session in which most of the quick laps were set early on in the thirty minutes. Senna had the luxury of parking his car early, safe in the knowledge that nobody else's tyres had any life left in them.

Senna's Double R team-mate Mike Conway will line up alongside the Brazilian, so if he stays where he is in the race there won't be much of a dent in his huge championship lead.

Carlin Motorsport driver and McLaren Autosport Award winner Oliver Jarvis will start third.

Jonathan Kennard (Alan Docking Racing) scored his best qualifying position of the year in fourth, though he was over a second shy of Senna's pace. Stephen Jelley (Double R) and Christian Bakkerud (Carlin) complete a top six that is fairly consistent with the form book, after a session that was free of any major incidents.
