Nurburgring European F3: Rosenqvist leads Stroll in practice

The Swede's Prema Powerteam Dallara-Mercedes leapt to the top in the second of the 40-minute sessions to outpace the sister car of Canadian rookie Lance Stroll by 0.290 seconds.

"There are always some bits you can improve, but we're not looking too bad," said Rosenqvist. "It's a good start, and the only problem was traffic.

"It shouldn't be so bad in qualifying now, because now you can't slow down [to find a clear lap, under new Euro F3 sporting regulations for qualifying]."

The first session was a good one for Carlin's youthful English duo: George Russell, who passed his driving test only last month, was second fastest, but it was his team-mate, Red Bull junior Callum Ilott - who isn't even old enough to get onto the road yet - who was fastest.

Ilott's time remained good enough for third overall, with Russell taking fifth in the combined classification, the pair split by Motopark runner Markus Pommer's second-session improvement.

Jake Dennis made it an English 1-2-3 in the first session in his Prema car with a time that was good for sixth overall, just edging out the Motopark car of Nabil Jeffri.

Next up were Prema's Nick Cassidy and Van Amersfoort Racing's title contender Charles Leclerc, who set identical times in the second session.

The top 10 overall was rounded out by Sam MacLeod (Motopark), while championship hopeful Antonio Giovinazzi's best effort was a ninth in the second session.

At the back of the 33-car field, the Russian ArtTech made its debut on a race weekend in the hands of Latvian Harald Schlegelmilch, the car working down to a time 3.7 seconds off Rosenqvist's pace but within one second of the slowest Dallara.

There was one red flag, which appeared a few minutes into the second session to retrieve the car of Matt Rao.

Meanwhile, Norisring race winner Maximilian Gunther is missing from the field this weekend in his Mucke Motorsport entry.
