The Spanish driver led comfortably from start to finish after starting from pole position. His only fright came just after the finish line, as he spun his car when he tried to do a 'stoppie' by his Prema team on the pitwall.

Roberto Merhi (Mucke) took an uneventful second place, well clear of Signature's Laurens Vanthoor, who overcame a collision with Valtteri Bottas to take third.

Bottas needed to win the race to have any hope of overhauling Marco Wittmann (Signature) for second place in the championship. The Finn stalked Vanthoor after making his way up to fourth on the opening lap, but it appeared that the Belgian had him under control.

Vanthoor then locked a wheel into the second corner on lap 23, and Bottas went to the outside of him down the backstraight. The ART driver was briefly ahead, but as he moved across on Vanthoor into the new Turn 4, the blue and white car hit him up the back, pushing Bottas into the gravel.

That allowed Edoardo Mortara (Signature) into fourth place, but this year's champion retired on the final lap with an apparent mechanical problem, giving fourth back to Bottas.

Behind all that, rookie of the year Antonio Felix da Costa and Alexander Sims completed the points for Motopark and ART respectively.

Wittmann came home a distant ninth, but he held on to second in the championship.
