Grosjean wins thrilling race two
Pre-season Formula Three Euro Series favourite Romain Grosjean won the second round of the series at Hockenheim after winning a thrilling duel with poleman Yelmer Buurman
Buurman (Manor Motorsport) benefited from a decision to start the race behind the safety car after an exploding Porsche had coated the start/finish straight in treacherously slippery coolant fluid. Grosjean (ASM) started fourth, but moved up to third on lap five by passing Edoardo Mortara (Signature) at the Spitzkehre hairpin.
He then set his sights on fellow FFSA protege Jean Karl Vernay and passed him when Vernay's lunge to pass leader Buurman at Spitzkehre caused him to run wide and lose time. Thus began a thrilling battle between Buurman and Grosjean, which lasted for the next 10 laps.
Finally, after all manner of attacks and occasional contact between them, Grosjean made a move stick by throwing a classic dummy as they approached the Mercedes Arena. Buurman left a gap and Grosjean grabbed it.
He then pulled away to a dominant victory, leaving Buurman to fend off Saturday winner Sebastien Buemi, who battled his way up from eighth to third.
Vernay finished fourth, ahead of James Jakes (Manor), Franck Mailleux (Manor) and Nico Hulkenberg (ASM).
