Grosjean dominates race one

On a baking Tuscan afternoon at Mugello, Romain Grosjean was too hot to handle for rest of the Formula Three Euro Series field as he cruised to a comfortable win

After a stellar start the ASM driver was already 2.2 seconds to the good by the end of the first lap and from there he just drove away from the field, coming home 16.3 seconds ahead after 21 laps.

Teammate Kamui Kobayashi made a great getaway to slot into second, but he had no answer to Grosjean's pace. But he was comfortable in second place as Sebastien Buemi in third had his mirrors full of James Jakes.

Both Buemi and Jakes had taken full advantage of a first corner collision involving Nico Hulkenberg, Tom Dillman and Tim Sandtler. Sandtler was eliminated on the spot, while the other two limped back to the pits for repairs.

Jakes made one concerted attempt to pass Buemi at the first turn, but the former championship leader forced the Briton wide and held on.

Grosjean's win, coupled with his point for pole, means he has taken a two-point lead in the series.

Jean-Carl Vernay took fifth ahead of Franck Mallieux, Dani Clos and race two pole-sitter Renger van der Zande.
