Asmer takes Brands GP pole

Marko Asmer finally found some clear road to take pole late in today's first British Formula Three qualifying session at Brands Hatch

The Hitech Racing driver had struggled in the test yesterday, and also struggled to find a gap in the traffic during the first half of a dry session on the Grand Prix circuit.

But after a mid-session red flag to clear the crashed cars of Alberto Valerio (Carlin Motorsport) and Alex Waters (Promatecme), the championship leader found a space, put in a lap and leapt from the midway down the timesheets into first place.

Double R driver Atte Mustonen was another to improve after the stoppage, and he will start on the front row alongside Asmer.

Supporting the Finn's quest to land Double R's first win of the season will be teammates Stephen Jelley (third) and Jonathan Kennard (fifth). These two will sandwich the leading Carlin driver, Sam Bird.

T-Sport's Rodolfo Gonzalez put in one of his best performances of the season to take sixth, following his scary roll last time out at Monza.

The session was halted early after a crash at Hawthorns by Double R guest driver Johnny Cecotto Junior.

Franky Cheng (Performance Racing) returned to his best form by taking pole position in the National Class.
