Euro F3 Zandvoort: Honda junior Makino back early after wrist break

The 20-year-old, who needed a metal plate inserting in the wrist, was expected to be out of action at least until the Nurburgring round on September 9-10.

The injury happened when Makino collided with Harrison Newey in the final race of the weekend at the Norisring - it was a relatively slow-speed accident but he caught his hand awkwardly in the steering wheel, and also broke a finger.

He sat out the intervening round at Spa, although he did attend the Belgian event, but now returns to the cockpit of his Hitech GP Dallara-Mercedes.

"I'm really happy to be back with Hitech GP," Makino told Autosport.

"I tried to make a quick recovery and pushed hard with my rehabilitation.

"Now my wrist and finger are not at 100% - to be honest I have made a 50-60% recovery but I will do my best this weekend."

Zandvoort, with its long sequence of sweeping high and medium-speed bends, is one of the most physical circuits on the F3 calendar.

"I'll be checking the situation of my arm so I don't overdo it," said Makino.

"Let's see what we can do!"
