Di Resta takes popular home win

Paul di Resta became the first driver to have won two F3 Euroseries races this year, after taking a popular home victory in the first of this weekend's two races at Brands Hatch

Di Resta dominated the 56-lap encounter from start to finish, looking in control throughout and eventually winning by half a second from ASM teammate Sebastien Vettel.

Vettel looked as if he might have been able to put together a charge to the front in the final stages, however di Resta was always comfortable.

Six different drivers had won the first six races of the season, and Di Resta's becomes 2006's first double winner, adding to his Oschersleben victory.

The win was enough to put di Resta out on his own in the championship lead, ten points ahead of Manor Motorsport's Esteban Guerrieri

Richard Antinucci finished a quiet third, but he will have to wait to find out if he will be allowed to keep it.

The American was disqualified from the race for being underweight in qualifying, however the HBR Motorsport driver was allowed to race under appeal.

Guido van der Garde finished fourth and James Jakes finished an impressive fifth for British F3 team Hitech Racing.

Guerrieri, who had gone into the race tying with di Resta in the championship lead, finished 16th. The Argentine driver had started last after losing his qualifying times because he ignored black flags.

Sebastien Buemi, who had qualified fourth, had a disastrous race. The Swiss driver was slow to get away from the grid and fell down the order immediately before spinning out entering Clearways on the second lap. He finished a distant 21st.

ASM driver Kohei Hirate didn't even make the start of the race, after a bizarre incident on the warm-up lap. His race ended at Druids Hairpin, with the right rear corner of his car hanging off. Hirate later claimed he had been hit by Jakes.
