Maiden win for Elkman at Brands

Peter Elkman took his maiden F3 Euroseries victory after dominating the second of the weekend's races at Brands Hatch

Elkman, who started from pole position due to his eighth-place finish in yesterday's longer race, got a clean start before pulling away from the rest of the field to win by a comfortable margin of 0.9 seconds.

It was not only the reigning German F3 champion's first victory of the season, but his first major finish too.

Before yesterday, Elkman's previous best result since joining the series was a 12th place finish at the opening race of the year at Hockenheim.

Likewise, Belgian teenager Michael Herck scored his best result and first significant points of the season with second.

Herck drove a calm race after making a clean getaway on the front row, ahead of reigning Formula Renault Eurocup champion Kumai Kobayashi, who also took his first podium of the season.

British F3 regular James Jakes finished fourth, ahead of yesterday's winner, Paul di Resta, who extended his championship lead to 12 points.

Di Resta was involved in the only significant passing move of the race, when he took fifth round the outside of Giedo van der Garde at Druids Hairpin on the first lap.

Van der Garde's chances of scoring points were effectively over when he was awarded a drive-through penalty for a jump-start. He was running sixth at the time.

Yesterday's third place finisher Richard Antinucci dropped out of seventh after coming into the pits twice.
