Di Resta: Nurburgring penalty unfair
Formula Three Euroseries championship leader Paul di Resta says he is 'more eager than ever' to win the title after his point's advantage was slashed by a stewards decisions at Nurburgring last weekend, costing him a race victory
The former McLaren Autosport BRDC award winner was given a post-race 30-second penalty after he clashed with ASM teammate Giedo van der Garde at the chicane following a restart on a damp track with slick tyres.
The penalty dropped him to 13th place, and cut his 11-point lead to six.
"I don't feel it was a fair decision," di Resta told this week's Autosport. "There were 15 separate incidents out there, all due to different conditions, yet the only action they took was against me.
"He moved twice to block me, when you're only supposed to move once, and I thought he was going to give me room and he didn't. I went over the kerbs to try and avoid him, but he turned across me. He was unfortunate to spin like that, but it was a racing incident."
But van der Garde argued: "It was such a stupid move. It cost me six points, because I could have won the race. The stewards saw it like this too, as they gave di Resta a penalty, but that is of no use to me."
Di Resta also criticised van der Garde's post-race confrontation in parc ferme, and alleged that the Dutchman grabbed his race suit before they were quickly separated by the DMSB's chief technical delegate Karl-Heinz Stegner.
This incident was also reported to the stewards, but no action was taken.
Di Resta added: "I don't think him grabbing my race suit was acceptable, but I wasn't going to retaliate - that's not my style. I hope this doesn't affect the team atmosphere, but we're going to have to sit down and address it."
